This full-day guided tour takes you to Marseille to visit the highlight of France’s 3rd largest city and the capital of Provence. Then, head to Avignon and discover the 14th-century papal city and its grand monuments like Pope Palace, the largest Gothic monument in Europe, you can also go to the Pont d’Avignon and enjoy the panoramic view of the city (entrance fees are not included). Your adventure begins with a trip to the historic center of Marseille. Walk along the old harbor dotted with shops and restaurants as your tour guide reveals the port’s journey from a 6th-century trading post to the center of the region’s maritime activity in the 19th century.

From here, you'll head to the colonnaded Palais Longchamp at the terminus of the Durance River. Inaugurated in 1869 as a monument commemorating Marseille's connection to a new network of waterways, the grand fountain-waterfall-water tower combination has two wings that house the city's Natural History Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. Continue to the magnificent Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde. Situated on the foundation of an ancient fort, this building sits on the highest elevation in the city overlooking Marseille. Consecrated in 1864 to replace an 11th-century church of the same name, the basilica has a lower crypt built in the Romanesque style and an upper church that was built in the neo-Byzantine style using green limestone from Florence. After this drive to Avignon for almost an hour, your day begins with a tour of the historic commune of Avignon on this fascinating tour. You will visit many points of interest throughout this tour, which serves as a great introduction to this charming region. This private tour offers plenty of experience for guests. Architecture is a huge attraction in this small commune, and you will see a lot of it as you make your way around the city.
